SC.6.L.14.4
Compare and contrast the structure and function of major organelles of plant and animal cells, including cell wall, cell membrane, nucleus, cytoplasm, chloroplasts, mitochondria, and vacuoles.
Compare and contrast the structure and function of major organelles of plant and animal cells, including cell wall, cell membrane, nucleus, cytoplasm, chloroplasts, mitochondria, and vacuoles.
On this page, animal and plant cells will be compared and contrast and the parts of the cells will be defined.

Plant and Animal Cells, what is the difference?
Plant cells have 2 things that animal cells don't have, a cell wall and chloroplasts. A cell wall is wall that is part of the outer structure. A chloroplast is a small organelle inside the plant cells that absorb light to make sugar in photosynthesis. They make plants green. Many think that plant cells have vacuoles and animals don't but that's not true. Plant cells have one large vacuole and animal cells have many small vacuoles. A vacuole is a membrane-bound organelle.

VOCAB-Parts of a Cell functions-Found at: http://quizlet.com/89958/cell-organelle-definitions-flash-cards/
mitochondria: converts energy from food to energy the cell can use. Often know as the powerhouse of the cell
cell wall: protects and supports the cell
cell membrane: controls what enters and leaves the cell
nucleus: control center of the cell
vacuoles: stores food and other materials needed by the cell
chloroplasts: use energy from sunlight to produce food in plants
ribosomes: grain like organelles that produce proteins
golgi body: sends and receives material in cell
cytoplasm: the cell substance between the cell membrane and the nucleus
Endoplasmic reticulum(ER): functions as a manufacturing and packaging system. It works closely with the golgi body and ribosomes.
